The Ministry of Housing decided to start the procedures for the second phase of the new Cairo water station, with a capacity of 500 thousand cubic meters per day, in addition to converting the Orasqualia sewage treatment plant to a triple treatment, with the capacity expansion of it, in favor of providing facilities for the new administrative capital project.
Orasqualia was established with a shareholding between Orascom Construction and Aqualia of Spain, after they won the bid for the New Cairo exchange treatment plant project by 50% each. The Orasqualia consortium won the tender at the end of June 2009, and the contract value amounted to 2.646 billion pounds.
The aim of the project was to design, build and operate a fire fighting system at the wastewater treatment plant for a total capacity of 600 kilogram for wastewater treatment in New Cairo.
